Strawberry is one of the important cash crops of high commercial value in Miaoli area. Great efforts have been made by this Station to improve varieties and cultural practice of strawberry in the past years. The results of our researches contribute to high quality, increase yield and marketing of strawberry in Taiwan. The supply in disease-free seedling is crucial on the strawberry industry. In this respect, method of propagating disease-free strawberry seedlings was developed by this Station, and was adopted by farmers to set up the Center for Production and Distribution of disease-free strawberry seedlings. This practice enables farmers to produce high quality disease-free strawberry in the market.

To avoid abundant supply of strawberry cause the lower market price, the harvesting time should be extend. Our research findings indicated that the flower bud initiation of strawberry is controlled by the production of internal plant hormone (cytokine, ethylene, GA and auxin). The cold treatment of strawberry seedlings can adjust the timing of internal production of these growth regulators. By properly using this technique, the growers now can adjust the harvesting time of strawberry at a desired time. Development and utilization of this simple technique contributed greatly to the stable production of strawberry in Taiwan. Recently devised the strawberry「high-rise bed" practice, not only able to increase yield but also able to save labor and relieve farmers back and spinal pains during the harvest.
