Establishment of standardization production of animal vaccines using silkworm as a bioreactor

Estimation of animal vaccine demand value in Taiwan was about NT$1.5 billion dollars. However, only NT$ 0.38 billion dollars was under domestic production. It indicated that the industrial potential of animal vaccines was great. The project was a cooperation study among MDARES, Academic Sinica and AHRI. We express amount of recombinant proteins using silkworm baculovirus system to reduce the cost for animal vaccines. The target protein for this project was class swine fever E2 vaccine and avianin fluenza H5N1. We would like to establish the SPF silkworm production techniques for animal vaccine use in GMP factory. The molecular maker for new silkworm strains, automatic inoculation facility for pupa and standard operation procedure for SPF silkworm rearing would be studied in this project.
