Native species have become a central concern of germplasm curators who faced the problem of conservation against habitat destruction and deforestation. The endemic orchids and fragrant plants are abundant in Taiwan. Three topics are conducted to meet the concern: 1. Collection, conservation and setup of gene bank of endemic orchids, connecting with other institutions/countries in the world; 2. Systemic collection, conservation and taxonomy of introduction of endemic fragrant plants; 3. Studies on the properties of essential oils and hydrosols of endemic fragrant plants. This year the collected fragrant plants germplasm amount regarding family of Theceae, Oleaceae, Rubiaceae, Bignoniaceae, Annonaceae, Papilionaceae, Magnoliaceae, and Meliaceae were 10, 9, 4, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, and 1, respectively, and were all backuped in National Plant Genetic Resources Center, Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute.
