Development of an agricultural irrigation technology in Miaoli coastal sand area

Date:2014-07-15

The study of Miaoli coastal areas agricultural irrigation technique was conducted at two different soil series Ti (63.2% sand content, watermelon cultivation) and Ts (79.8% sand content, greenhouse tomato). The results of watermelon test showed that spray irrigation under ground membrane would reduce 15.7-25.5% water leaks, and 18.6-39.9% nitrogen loss at same time. The total soil mineral N decreased at the end of this test, the range of decrease is increasing with the depth. The yield and fruit quality was not good enough caused by heavy rainfall. The results of greenhouse tomato test showed that soil mineral N and available P increased at each layer. The exchangeable Ca, Mg and K decreased at each layer. The fruit weight of tomato ranged from 12.2 to 13.8 g/fruit and the solid content from 9.7 to 11.3 Brix. The check treatment had the lowest yield of 12.2-13.8 ton/ha. The B treatment had the highest yield of 15.2-17.2 ton/ha.
